Well, DH, I guess it really comes down to why one plays the game. I play to play, and winning is secondary. But I find that doing my best under any circumstances can often overcome seemingly long odds.
Considering what I've seen and what you've said I get the impression that doesn't happen very often.
For me the challenge is to win. If I just enjoyed grooming an economy, building ships and fighting I'd host my own games on my PC and fight 10 computer players. There are plenty of FPS games you could play alone at home that have cheats giving you unlimited ammo. Mega-alliance is the VGAP version of unlimited ammo.
The challenge is in the doubt. When you stack the deck you take away the doubt. You also ruin the game for others that play to win. Some people expect to sink hundreds of hours into their turns over the course of a game. Some of us spend hours planning and running calculations. Who wants to have all that thought and effort erased by huge alliances that win by numbers and not skill?
Remember....."Not everything, that is not forbidden, is automatically allowed". Mega alliance kills the spirit of the game. I find it rather hypocritical that you and Adama would jump on the forum and mock and lecture people about how they should have played against the odds. The odds should never have existed, you created them.......rather disingenuous for you two to preach sportsmanship isn't it?
Considering your less than sportsmanship play in the game, I'm not shocked that you would jump in the forum at the end and play the part of the sore winner. If you recall, I dropped out without any parting shots.....no sour grapes. Had you and and Adama not picked at this scab the game would have ended without much fanfare.
